It’s business as usual at EK, East Kilbride as phase one of the town centre’s ambitious masterplan begins later this month, with Centre West starting to wind down on 30 December ahead of its planned demolition in 2026.
Many current operators including Muffin Break, HMV and TUI have already relocated to other areas within the centre, with the management team continuing to work proactively to attract new retailers to the town.
Alan Smillie, Centre Manager at EK, East Kilbride, said: “We are entering an exciting phase as all partners work together to deliver the Vision that will transform East Kilbride town centre. It will be business as usual for retailers in other parts of the centre with every effort being made to ensure the demolition work, when it happens in 2026, causes minimal disruption.
“We also fully understand that retailers, shoppers, and the wider community will be keen to know how the work is progressing, so regular updates will be provided as the masterplan moves forward.”
The demolition of Centre West forms a key part of the wider Vision for the town centre, which will see South Lanarkshire Council investing £50 million to deliver 250 new homes, enhanced public spaces, and a new Civic Heart on the former Centre West site in the years ahead.
While most stores within Centre West will close at the end of December, Starbucks and Superdrug will continue trading into the new year before relocating elsewhere in the centre. Pedestrian access through Centre West ground floor will be maintained until a new temporary entrance is formed in early 2026.
Centre West’s car park will close at the end of the day on the 30th of December with alternative parking available at Plaza, Olympia, and Princes Mall car parks.
